Synopsis :

Dans les années 1950, ennuyés par le quotidien sans relief de leurs parents, de jeunes Australiens découvrent le surf ; ils arpentent la côte, guettent la houle et inventent une autre manière de voir la vie. Ce sont des défricheurs. Équipés de caméras 16 mm, ils immortalisent leurs aventures. Les films projetés dans les salles et les clubs de surf attirent les foules. Une culture est née.
Durant les 50 dernières années, ces films d’anthologie demeurent introuvables. Ces images incroyables d’une période révolue, d’une poésie, d’un parfum et d’une couleur d’un charme fou, ont été exhumées par le réalisateur Jolyon Hoff.

In the 1950’s young people in Australia discovered surfing. uninspired by their parents’ drab lives, they headed up and down the coast, searching for waves and a different way to live. Some realised they were witnessing something very special.
They begged, borrowed 16 mm footage to capture the adventure. They screened their films in halls and surf clubs along the coast. The screenings were packed and the culture spread. But for the past 50 years, most of these films have been lost. Until now.

“When you jump into the wave, it’s just quite extraordinary. You think that you paddle out in the ocean as soon as you step in the ocean, everything’s gone. We, for that reason, this is pure beauty and love of that indescribable. That’s the essence of pure joy.”
