NIO KO BOKK

Synopsis :

Le réalisateur David Clancy a passé 8 mois au sein de la communauté de pêcheurs Lebou de Ngor à Dakar, au Sénégal. C’est là qu’il a appris, grâce à eux, à voir la mer non pas seulement comme un paysage mais comme une force qui façonne la vie quotidienne, l’identité.
Il y a rencontré Pape et Seydi, deux jeunes hommes, tournés vers le rivage, animés, non pas d’un désir de partir, mais par l’envie de rester et d’être partie prenante de leur communauté.
L’expression « Nio Ko Bokk » signifie en wolof « ce que nous partageons appartient à nous tous ». Quand surfer devient plus qu’un sport, un refuge, une planche de salut.

In Dakar, Senegal, surfing has become more than a sport—it’s a lifeline. « NIO KO BOKK » follows Pape and Seydi, two young men who find purpose and community in the ocean, choosing a different path than the perilous journeys many peers take in search of opportunity abroad. Through their story, the film explores how belonging at home can be as powerful as the promise of elsewhere.

‘Nio Ko Bokk’ is a Wolof phrase meaning “what we share belongs to all of us.” This idea shaped both the spirit of the film and the way the story unfolds. The film is not about individual triumph, but about collective care—how community, shared space, and mentorship can offer young people purpose and dignity.
