Synopsis :

“Mahoroba est un mot de l’ancien japonais qui signifie “un endroit magnifique”. Nachos (moi,) la réalisatrice, et Natsumi, nous avons eu un désir commun, celui d’explorer les terres du nord du Japon. Simplement en quête de joie et d’aventure, nous voulions créer quelque chose qui aille au-delà de ce que l’on peut voir. Nous voulions partager « l’aventure » sous d’autres angles que ceux du plaisir et de la beauté… La beauté véritable, non filtrée et brute qui découle de l’aventure – le sentiment d’impuissance lorsque les choses tournent mal, les états de bonheur et de frustration. Ce voyage a été une expérience inoubliable pour toutes les deux.”

The film is chasing waves in the northern lands of Japan. Mahoroba is a word in ancient Japanese meaning « a beautiful place ». Nachos (me) the camera-woman and Natsumi. With the mutual desire to explore more of Japan, we set out on our grand adventure to journey through Northern Japan. Simply chasing joy and seeking adventure, we wanted to create something beyond what meets the eye. We wanted to share « adventure » from different angles besides that of just fun and beauty… The true, unfiltered and raw beauty that comes from the adventure – of feeling helpless when things go awry, the spectrum of bliss and frustration that come out of a trip. To share ourselves openly, as we are. This journey was an unforgettable experience for the both of us.
