Synopsis :

Il est parfois bon de se perdre pour mieux se retrouver. Les jeunes surfeurs norvégiens Emil Leenderts et Emil Aslaksrud prennent le large, s’éloignent des réseaux sociaux, du web et de ses distractions trop fréquentes pour crapahuter, seuls, le long de la côte Ouest de la Norvège à la recherche de vagues et d’instants privilégiés, en amitié.

Norwegian cold water surfers explore the West Coast of Norway in search of new waves – and to get away from modern life and social media. They ultimately find what they where looking for, and more.

Synopsis :

Dans les années 1950, ennuyés par le quotidien sans relief de leurs parents, de jeunes Australiens découvrent le surf ; ils arpentent la côte, guettent la houle et inventent une autre manière de voir la vie. Ce sont des défricheurs. Équipés de caméras 16 mm, ils immortalisent leurs aventures. Les films projetés dans les salles et les clubs de surf attirent les foules. Une culture est née.
Durant les 50 dernières années, ces films d’anthologie demeurent introuvables. Ces images incroyables d’une période révolue, d’une poésie, d’un parfum et d’une couleur d’un charme fou, ont été exhumées par le réalisateur Jolyon Hoff.

In the 1950’s young people in Australia discovered surfing. uninspired by their parents’ drab lives, they headed up and down the coast, searching for waves and a different way to live. Some realised they were witnessing something very special.
They begged, borrowed 16 mm footage to capture the adventure. They screened their films in halls and surf clubs along the coast. The screenings were packed and the culture spread. But for the past 50 years, most of these films have been lost. Until now.

“When you jump into the wave, it’s just quite extraordinary. You think that you paddle out in the ocean as soon as you step in the ocean, everything’s gone. We, for that reason, this is pure beauty and love of that indescribable. That’s the essence of pure joy.”

In a world obsessed with the new, a man embarks on the restoration of an old surfboard. Through this intimate ritual, Tides of Time dissolves the boundaries of past and present, exploring the impulses that compel us to keep, repair, and prolong the life of what we cherish. Invierno ST/CR est né de sept années de conversations, à Santa Teresa, au Costa Rica, au line-up, entre le réalisateur Jakob Daschek et le surfeur Lorenzo Wickstrom Vargas. Une réflexion au fil des saisons et des sessions sur la culture du surf, sur le tourisme et la manière dont la petite communauté côtière s’en trouve transformée. Alors que Santa Teresa évolue pour devenir une destination surf de renommée mondiale, la tension grandit entre croissance et perte, beauté et pression de la popularité.

Set in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, this short surf film emerges from seven years of conversations in the lineup between Jakob Daschek and surfer Lorenzo Wickstrom Vargas. Moving through changing seasons, the film reflects on surf culture, tourism, and time, and how each reshapes a small coastal community.
As Santa Teresa evolves into a global surf destination, the story explores the tension between growth and loss, the beauty and strain of popularity, and the ocean’s ability to level everyone who enters it.
